More recently, Altria (Philip Morris' parent company) has paid $12.8 billion for a 35% stake in Juul (Juul owns 3/4 of the e-cigarette market)[1a]. (For the uninitiated, vaping one Juul cartridge or "pod" is equivalent to smoking an entire pack of cigarettes.) In other words Philip Morris and the rest of them are busy buying up their own so-called "competition".
